SCUBA Dive and Work Photo

Well, I finally did my first SCUBA dive today.  Actually, I did two dives.  Tomorrow I will do two more.  I didn't think we would be allowed to take pictures, so I didn't take my camera. I should have because other people did.  Tomorrow I will and will post great reef photos on Monday.  In the meanwhile, here is the official photo of me that is on our command board.

After two days of diving (Saturday morning before work and Sunday) my left ear won't clear. I am on two meds to fix it. Here are some photos from the dives. When I got to 60 feet, the buttons on the camera got stuck in.  I had to ascent until they would push again, then it worked OK.  Enjoy.

We have been restricted to the Camp since all the riots broke out. I wish I had new pictures to publish, but since I don't, I decided to work on some older ones. Here is another video of Djibouti.

Tajoura

Yesterday several of us from work went to a place three hours away called Tajoura. None of us had been to this beach before, but somehow we made it. Some people wanted to turn back when we were on a very bumpy dirt and rock (not stone) road. I wanted to go a little further, thinking if we turned back, we'd probably find out, "You were only 1/2 mile away from it!" The ride was well worth it. There are normally camels there you can pay to ride (you pay the owner, not the camel), but they weren't there. It actually wasn't until today that we verified that we were at the right place. As you can see, the snorkeling was AWESOME!  We also saw a troop of Baboons on our way back. Enjoy.

This place is not desert, as we all envision when we think about Africa. In this neck of the woods it is a rocky desert. In certain areas, the ground is totally covered with lava rock that is as sharp as razors. It looks like very rough asphault that has cracked and jutted upwards. There is a picture of a rock cliff at the beach where we snorkeled.
