These pictures are of a safari our Deputy Director (George Corbin) went on. I just enhanced them ;-)

Comedians Visit

We had the pleasure of having four comedians here the other night. Three of the four were a riot! Below are some pictures of them, but don't ask me their names.

Grand Canyon, Lake Assal

Yesterday was another day to explore Djibouti. A few of us went to Lake Assal, which is the lowest point in Africa. It is 501 feet below sea level and is the 3rd lowest point on earth. The lake is so salty that you cannot sink. The whole bottom is salt and is as hard as rock. I tasted it and it is VERY salty. I put my hand in it and when the water evaporated, my hand was crusty with salt. Here are some pictures.

This place is nothing but rock. When we drive around, all you can see for miles and miles is rocks. Below is some lava rock. I couldn't believe how sharp it is. It is really incredible!

People here will make a hut out of anything they can find. A lot of them are made of tarps and pieces of metal. And they live in the strangest places. the land is totally barren, but they will "build" a place to live out in the middle of nowhere. I always wonder where they go for food and water. Here are some "houses".

I have no idea why, but the people here stack rocks for no apparent reason. These are in the middle of nowhere. When we see a small mound of rocks, those are graves.

Believe it or not, there is a Djiboutian Grand Canyon. Take a look.

Here is some more housing.

Ahh! Finally, the Baboons! Notice the babies attached to the mother's chest. They are carried that way, or on the mother's backs.

I never thought of Camels being majestic, but look at this one.

Here's something you don't see every day. Talk about a road hazard!
